I've been talking with people at speecys.com and they've just setup a community site at http://planetspeecys.com/.

Since their  SPC-101C (aka MIRAI-RT) is network-enabled, the thrust of the platform development is continually-updated s/w.

If you have experience with NetBSD or other Unix-based development I'm sure the company would not mind open-source contributions. :)

The 2 ideas that were suggested to me were

  1. A "concierge" system that essentially wraps Google or other internet searches in speech I/O.
  2. A "real second life" system that keeps track of the owner's social links, hobbies, and other "favourite things". Obviously a gold-mine for the marketing depatment.
