Hello everyone,

I just joined and thought I'd make use of this topic to let you all know a bit about myself. Joined the AusRobotics Club on Facebook and saw the link to ausrobotics.com.

I have been interested in robotics since I was a kid, also electronics has been a hobby since late primary school. I completed a degree in Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Western Sydney in 2001, and am currently working at Machinery Automation and Robotics in Silverwater, Sydney. My job involves industrial vision systems and robotics. It's totally cool.  :D   Hard work and very challenging at times but there's lots of technological gadgets and robots.

At home I have (in various stages of completion) several robots – hexapods / quadrapods. Controllers have included PC tethered, Basic Stamp, PIC's and Basic Atom. Currently investigating Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5. Looks like a good base for experimenting with vision on mobile robots. :)

Thanks for creating this group, I look forward to getting to know you guys.

Hi Roland! :)

Man, I need to switch to robotics as my full time job. All this software only stuff is driving me crazy :)

Let me know if you want a blog to post updates on any of your stuff or if you have a site you want aggregated. The blogs are disabled by default but I might change that if everyone wants one.

You may have seen that we are sort of running a competition at the moment to build a beerdroid. I'm sure your computer vision prowess will come in handy for differentiating, say, a bottle full of VB from a bottle of the finest James Squire Amber Ale. Don't want it to deliver the wrong thing! hehe :)

Good to have you onboard!

Thanks Ash, I'll take a look at the beerdroid comp. :)
Another thing about my job, it doesn't leave much spare time unfortunatley. Today I programmed a robot arm to stack and destack cans for a demo. I'll have to work out how to post some photos of my creations.
