Welcome back everyone! :)

With the new year just starting, and me finally over my jetlag, I thought it would be a good idea to get some  feedback on where you guys would like to see AusRobotics going over the next 12 months.

So, what do you like/dislike about the site? More projects? More tutorials? A different site layout? More adverts plastered everywhere obscuring all of the stuff I just mentioned?

Do you want to start having meetups in, *gasp*, the real world? Robo-BBQ anyone? :)

Let me know what you think and we'll make it happen!

Hi,

Bit of a late reply but better late than never :)

Can I please first suggest that you change the date system to Australian format instead of American. It's driving me insane. I keep wondering why this post was made on the first of December?!

I think tutorials and a sense of community are the key. The only times I have ever spend an extended period of time going back to the same site time after time was if there were useful tutorials, or if I knew there were people around who could help solve problems.

Tutorials that are easy to understand and relevant are mega useful. I say relevant because while I might find your tutorial about the advantages of high power lasers over low power lasers in laser etching interesting, I will probably never use it. Things like setting up a UV light box to make your own PCB's, or writing motion detection software for a simple camera I would definitely take a longer look at and maybe even use.

Also a good knowledge base is good too (as I see has been started to be set up). General information should be put in there too. And I include here pretty basic stuff like; how pull up/pull down resistors work, how do transistors work, etc, as well as more in-depth things like H-bridges and stepper motor controllers.

Guess what I'm saying is that there should be basic information, as well as some more advanced stuff around. In addition there should be a good forum community to ask questions about those specific things that no tutorial or guide will ever cover. Also love to see what other people are doing :)

Let me know if you agree or disagree with anything.

I have been looking for an Australian site like this for a while so I'm glad to see things are happening.

Thanks for the info, some good points there!

Yeah good tutorials are definitely part of the solution. I am currently working on some modifications to the site that will make it easier for people to link together posts into coherent tutorials. Kym has been doing a great job keeping the site fresh with feedback on his projects and there needs to be a way for people to find that stuff at a later date.

Also that is a good idea about the low level tutorials. The site is meant to help people from all skill levels to get started so there probably be some basic electronics related stuff on here. Anyone with knowledge that they think could help others is more than welcome to start a blog and start posting info (or using the knowledge base). I'll be able to link posts together into tutorial format later.

Great feedback, thanks. :)
