This is in response to PirCapAdi saying that one of his posts has disappeared. I have looked into it and it has indeed been removed but I haven't yet worked out how. This is obviously not a good situation but here's what I know so far:
- Only Kym and myself (apart from post authors) have the ability to delete nodes.
- There is nothing in the logs. They only exist for a week and I am pretty sure it happened some time between the 23/06 to the 30/06 (when the logs start).
- There was nothing strange about that post apart from the fact that it initially went into moderation for a little while before it was published.
Unfortunately I don't have a backup from after Adi posted the article. I have a backup from a couple of days before and a partially recovered post using some rss voodoo which I can repost but that's it. Obviously this sucks so I just want to apologise to Adriaan for that. Argh, sorry!
Anyway, I have increased the logging duration to 4 weeks and am now running a backup module so I will be able to restore if this ever happens again.
I'm still investigating so I will let you know as soon as I work out what happened.
Ash

Think I noticed it missing last week Wednesday, the 2nd but can’t remember 100%. Unfortunately I also don’t have a backup but I am working on a website for the project, which will have much more info than the blog post. Can see the work in progress at renoster.auv.co.za, still a long way to go. Adi

This seems to be similar to what was happening to my blog entries (and only the blog entries — forum posts and comments I made were unaffected) a few weeks back.
I noticed Adi's blog entry as well as a couple of attached comments (i.e. I can't find the one or 2 responses I made to it) have gone as well.
As ash knows, I was running a script that deleted spam comments.
While it's right to suspect such a bot, I don't think it can be responsible since I stopped running it automatically when I started noticing 2-3 of my blog posts going missing. I then started running it by hand and I don't think I would miss a legitimate item before I said "delete".
Anyway, I only moderate the *comments* and blog entries appear to be a completely different kettle of fish.
Of course, if Drupal has bugs (and this is not a big if it *is* possible if someone says "delete item about cheap porn downloads" it also decides to delete some "nearby" legitimate item.
Since we seem to be down to less than 10 spam comments per day at the moment, I can forgo all moderation activity in case it is possibly the cause of the problem.

I just noticed that 99% of the "knowlege base" stuff that was posted prior to June has disappeared.
I know I'd left about 2 dozen links to different suppliers in there, but they are now all gone.

Damn, I just noticed the Knowledge Base as well. Gah.
I'll keep my eye on the logs and try to rebuild. I am pretty sure I have an export from before they went.

I tried to add a page to the knowledge base last week, also suppliers, but nothing appeared.

Haha, when it first came to light I was like, "Argh! This is just like my work problems except it is happening in my happy place!"

DISAPPEARING FILES.
Here's a possible clue. I accidentally deleted one of the "files" without loggin in.
I suspect anyone can delete any file, incl articles.

Thanks for the info Kym, I'll check the perms on the file manager because they are separate from the articles.
If they are set as they should be then that points to a deeper issue entirely. Go backups!
