U.S. Says Hellfire Missiles Kill 12 in Baghdad

Hellfire missiles fired from Predator drones killed 12 militants armed with mortars and rocket-propelled grenades in two separate incidents on April 8 as part of the U.S. crackdown on Shiite militiamen in eastern Baghdad. In the first incident, the UAS spotted and then fired upon the targets. "These criminals fired two mortar rounds at coalition forces in northeast Baghdad. Moments later, an unmanned aerial vehicle observed the two criminals covering the tubes with a tarp and then hiding behind an adjacent building," says the U.S. military in a statement. Later, another Predator fired a Hellfire at "a group of armed criminals" in possession of grenades and a mortar tube, killing 10 and wounding two.
