    Just call it a “DistanceHat”… Uncategorized | (0)
[Update: 06/01/09] - Added the source code to my Arduino sketch - Found some interesting info on linearising the output from the sharp sensors - Hack-a-day has an article on the very same subject - I found the SensorWiki - What a great site! [youtube=ns-xTmjc6Cg,480,4:3,Distance Hat!] So... You can't buy any new parts You can't be bothered getting your robot driving around the house You want a 'quick win' to make you feel better about going back to work tomorrow You just happen to have a Bare Bones Board Arduino clone and an old Sharp infrared distance sensor sitting around What do you do? Well if you are me you first ...

Happy New Year (and Project)! Uncategorized | (0)
(and Merry Xmas as well) Hey everyone! I hope you guys had a great break and got lots of stuff done (robo or otherwise). I could definitely do with another week before going back to work but ah well... I need to make money somehow and my investments in CitiGroup and Ford seem to not be tracking as well as I would like :) I have been out of the country and away from my computer for most of the break but today I finally found some time to whip a project together. It's very simple but fun and might interested someone ...

Does anyone have a really large electromagnet? It was lucky that Terminator 3 was on TV in Melbourne last night because I may soon need to know how to terminate a pack of robot hunter/killers myself if the US Army's planned Multi-Robot Pursuit System becomes a reality. The system is designed to allow a human operator overseeing the partially autonomous robot "pack" to "to search for and detect a non-cooperative human subject." - Minority Report anyone? Man, the Big Dog video is unnerving already and that is without pack hunting capability built in! More from New Scientist It's just like a normal Servo motor. ...

    Robo Japan 2008 Uncategorized | (0)
Well it looks like we launched just in time. Robo Japan 2008 is on at the moment and chock full of robo goodness (like it could be anything else given the words that make up its title). Lots of service robots in this one but not as many beer droids as I would like. Is there ever? :) Robo Japan 2008 [via Pink Tentacle]

New forum software for V2 Uncategorized | (0)
What's this? Another update on Ausrobotics v2???? No your eyes  aren't deceiving you, this is an update!  AR V2 has taken a lot longer than expected unfortunately, mainly due to the fact that I haven't until now been able to find any good forum software to replace the rubbish that Drupal currently provides (also I have been building a scale model of the most powerful particle accelerator on the planet but that is another story). Early this week I finally found a solution that seems to tick all of the boxes. These boxes are:  Seamless integration with Wordpress sign-in (you don't want ...

Quadruped robot nearly together, and MRDS simulation work Uncategorized | (2)
Hi everyone, here's an update on the recent work I have been doing on assembly of the quadruped robot design, and also some adventures using the Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio package. I also talk a bit about some experimentation with casting plastic parts using silicone moulds.   As you can see from the picture, the robot is getting near completely assembled now, the only parts remaining are the mounting of the two cameras on the head. No wiring up of servos has been done yet, and the battery pack hasn't yet been mounted (or purchased), but still it's looking more and more complete. The shoulder brackets you can see attaching each ...

Welcome to the new AusRobotics website! AusRobotics is a new Australia wide robotics club that aims to provide a central place for Australian roboteers to get together and share knowledge and experience in the fields of hobby and professional robotics. If you are into robotics and live in Australia (or anywhere for that matter, everyone is welcome) then you have come to the right place! Feel free to sign up for an account via the register link on the sidebar. Please bear with me as I set up the CMS properly. It will probably take a couple of days at least. Ash
