droopy drupal
Is it just robotics websites that seem a bit unreliable or is it all those that are based on Drupal? My other favorite robotics website http://letsmakerobots.com is also based on Drupal and it is offline a lot. But that may just be because the operators insist on using MySQL as their database manager. Infer what you will from that statement.
http://robots.net generally seems to be very solid but it is custom written software and very very limited in its capabilities. Though they claim to have 20,000 visitors a day they have completely failed to create a sense of community.
After years of agonising about "Will I?" or "Won’t I?" I’ve decided to bite the bullet and start writing community portal software capable of handling some really useful content. Please stay tuned and feel free to offer suggestions and arguments for or against this bold plan.
It’s a minority opinion these days, but I always advocate rewriting it yourself (after maybe playing with a freebe version to find out the minuses).
At worst you learn something; at best you make something worth using.
