Robo News X

Whooooo!

Ok, just trying to fire everyone up there. Not sure if it worked or not but it was worth a shot :) Ok, here’s the update!

Still trying to work out the v2 site issues. They seem to only manifest under FF2 and non XP OSs (correct me if I am wrong). I am sure it will be simple in the end but I haven’t had too much time to work on it.

Does this guy ever sleep? (Do I for that matter?). Incessant inventor, CrabFu managed to bust out the PutterBot seemingly overnight. It’s movements are awesome but like his other creations it is remote controlled, it would be great to remake this little guy and fully automate it.

Somebody did what I only threatened to and stuck the Wowee animatronic Chimp head onto a Roomba. I have no words for the result but if I did they would probably rhyme with ‘Awesome’ and ‘Totally’.

We have come full circle. First we had sheep eating to eat our grass. Then we had lawn mowers to cut our grass. And then we had robotic lawnmowers to automatically cut our grass. Now we have robotic sheep to automatically cut our grass. Ok – it’s not actually full circle but you get my drift. :)

Got a spare Arduino sitting around the place? Check out the simple Ard-e robotics intructable that uses the popular micro board as its brain. Arduinos are a great simple way to get into microcontroller dev and the new boards are really cheap to boot (Check out Little Bird Electronics for a good AU distributor).

Some guy built an automated paintball sentry gun… More proof that real robots won’t miss when firing at us like they used to in the Transformers comic…!

Sure lots of bipeds can walk these days… But how many can strut? VStone’s new Black Ox biped definitely fits into the second category. Order it now before they run out!

And last but not least, those of you planning on building an all terrain bot might want to check out the tread setup on this LEGO version of a Chaos UGV (from the Warhammer 40K roleplaying universe). It gives it great ground clearance as well as the ability to get over pretty much anything it seems. Plus it looks really cool :)

Until next time!
